The TNQ Drought Hub and Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) have worked in partnership in the development of a generic Extension Pathways Matrix to support Australian extension organisations. The purpose of this report is to provide a framework for considering the extension skills needed to inform career pathways and training needs. It is also about further developing and supporting the recognition of the professional extension.

Good extension practices incorporate understanding behavioural change which encompasses the fields of sociology and psychology.
Change Practice PrincipleEstablish the foundation for a collaborative relationship. Begin to get to know the producer and their context to build and sustain a sound working relationship.
Relational Practice PrincipleExtension officers provide specific technical knowledge and influence change through their technical expertise and established relationships.
