Harvest Spotlight - Taking It To The Next Level

Congratulations to Four Daughters who have received a TNQ Drought Hub Agricultural Innovation Harvest Accelerator Program sponsorship.

We look forward to supporting and following their journey and wish them all the best success!

Karen and Bonnie Penfold – Four Daughters

Tell us a little bit about your product and what you are hoping to achieve in the Harvest program?
The Four Daughters Premium Australian Angus burger was developed as a value-add product that could be scalable and marketable both domestically and globally–sharing the story of food provenance. We are hoping to review our product offering to ensure our value-add chain is as price effective as it can be, our product is as good as it can be to suit consumer demand, and look to partner with a food service chain/s that is passionate about provenance.

What is your motivation in participating in the Harvest Program?
When you are farmers and “have a go” at a branded value add product, you are stepping into a new area separate to Ag. We are entrenched daily in all areas of the operational side of growing beef and we really needed some ‘outside’ eyes and expertise to look over what we have done to date and coach us in how to go and grow forward

Why do you think it’s important for the TNQ Drought Hub to support programs like Harvest?

As a farmer we know that dry times and drought is a part of weather cycles. Our family originally began feed lotting cattle as our drought strategy about 25 years ago. As our business has grown and another generation has become involved, we needed to be thinking about how we can get more  value out of what we do, to build other business opportunities to get through the dry times that are inevitably ahead of us.

The support of TNQ Drought Hub is key to supporting families in Ag to think outside the square, to build capacity and to not only survive drought, by thrive through it.

How does your business support the TNQ agricultural industry?
By sharing our experiences as fellow Qld Beef Producers we hope to share the ‘positive’ stories of beef production with consumers and maybe encourage other producers in the Tropical North to look at their business to see how they could get more value out of what they are already doing to help carry through times of drought and out the other side.
