Dr Jane Oorschot, TNQ Drought Hub Building Human Capacity Program Lead, was invited to speak about leadership and working together at the Queensland Country Women’s Association State Conference held on 29-31 October at the Mackay Conference Centre.
The conference brought together over 300 women together to connect and address issues affecting rural and regional communities.
Jane presented on ‘The Value of Relationships through the Organisational Lens’ and said, “The underpinning themes of my presentation were Vision and Values, Relationships and Trust, Leadership and Self-awareness. By understanding our own and others leadership styles we can ensure we are building sustainable relationships.”
Jane also encouraged participants to access free on-line tools that are available to better understand their leadership preferences by considering tests such as Myer Briggs, Emotional Intelligence and the Johari Window.
“Completing these types of tests let us identify 2 or 3 things that can help improve our interactions as leaders and contributors.
“When we understand our level of emotional intelligence we can put strategies in place to improve our self-awareness. Increased self-awareness contributes to individuals personal success in both their working and personal lives.”
Jane’s presentation serves as a reminder for leaders, team members, or community advocates to invest in self-awareness which leads to building trust, enhancing collaboration, and creating meaningful change.
