Congratulations to Knowledge Broker Karen George who has been selected as part of the North Region working group for Primary Industries Prosper 2050.

“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to work with our community to codesign North Queensland and Far North Queensland’s plans to meet the government’s 25-year blueprint for a better future,” Karen said.

Primary Industries Prosper 2050 is a comprehensive blueprint developed by the Queensland Government in collaboration with industry stakeholders. Its aim is to guide the long-term growth, sustainability, and transformation of the state’s primary industries (including agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and biosecurity) through to the year 2050.

This week Karen attended the North Region Action Plan Focus Group in Cairns, where the working group met with regional stakeholders from industry, logistics, government, education and innovation to discuss regional aspirations and prioritise initiatives for the long-term vision.

“The purpose of the focus group was to bring people together, understand the vision for their industry or sector and its impact on primary industries across the northern Queensland,” Karen said.

“We are collectively prioritising and codeveloping the plans which will guide the government in shaping seven regional action plans that. These will explore place-based solutions and initiatives for Queensland’s whole agri-systems. The final step will be to open the plan to public consultation before its final release.”

There regional three working groups (North, Central and South) have been established to represent all of Queensland’s primary industries and ensure the specific needs of sectors, businesses and communities across the state are included. Each group has 12-13 members representing their regions, bringing a diverse mix of skills, knowledge and experience.

TNQ Drought Hub Director Professor David Phelps and Sustainable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Enterprise Program Lead Dr Jim Turnour also participated in the North and Central Focus Groups, sharing their expertise to help shape the plans.
