BeefVantage

AI-Powered Knowledge and Decision Assistance

Aim

To support climate-adaptive decision-making in the beef industry by refining and validating BeefVantage, an AI-powered knowledge assistant for extension professionals.

Background

This activity aims to address the shortage and high turnover of extension staff servicing the beef industry in the Tropical North Queensland regions, specifically in very remote towns where training and mentoring is limited. The TNQ Drought Hub, through James Cook University commercialisation funding, has developed ‘BeefVantage’, an AI-powered knowledge assistant tailored for the beef industry.

Why this Matters

BeefVantage has the potential to equip early career extension officers with the knowledge they need to quickly understand and sensibly advise beef producers, and more experienced professionals with a tool to increase their effectiveness and efficiency through its provision of integrated information.

What We Are Doing

The Knowledge Adoption Officer will lead the development and testing of BeefVantage’s real-world application as an AI powered decision-support tool for climate-adaptive farm management. Through collaboration with extension officers in NRM Nodes, DPI, and private consulting firms, insights will be gathered for improvement and explore opportunities for industry integration and co-resourcing to enhance its reach, uptake, and long-term sustainability.

Get Involved

The next phase will involve human evaluation to validate results and ensure the tool supports climate-adaptive decision-making. Producers and extension officers interested in the upcoming pilot or project updates are encouraged to get involved.
