Succession workshop helps farmers for the future

Key takeaways

  • Farmers gained valuable strategies for navigating business transitions, led by expert Scott Patterson, using relatable, real-world case studies
  • The workshop fostered a relaxed environment where attendees actively participated, shared experiences, and supported each other in understanding succession planning
  • TNQ Drought Hub helped facilitate the workshop

Reef Catchments and the TNQ Drought Hub joined forces to host an interactive Succession Planning Workshop in Sarina on 7 November, providing local farmers with the knowledge on how to plan an effective succession transition. Led by succession expert Scott Patterson, the event delivered practical strategies tailored to the agricultural sector, sparking meaningful discussions and hands-on learning.

Participants actively engaged in the workshop by sharing personal experiences and seeking advice for their unique situations, and shared that they appreciated Scott’s ability to explain key concepts through real-world scenarios.

Reef Catchments Drought Resilience Coordinator Rachel Taylor noted the workshop’s success, explaining, Scott used real-world case scenarios to illustrate key concepts, making the workshop both informative and engaging. The relaxed, casual atmosphere encouraged active participation, and all attendees—who represented a small but committed group of local farmers—felt comfortable asking questions and sharing their own experiences. It was clear that the group valued the opportunity to not only learn from Scott but also from one another.”

Rachel added “Due to the overwhelmingly positive response and the strong demand for more, we plan to host future workshops with Scott early next year. Our goal is to provide even more local farmers with the opportunity to develop their succession planning skills in a supportive, hands-on environment.”
