Good governance is the bedrock of every successful community organisation. Having skilled and capable people who can lead these organisations builds and maintains resilient towns and regions and enhances the outcomes for all members of the community.

Outcomes

  • Gain a working knowledge of the duties, responsibilities, and requirements of Management Committees and Management Committee Members.
  • Build confidence to take on a Management Committee role and contribute to your local community.
  • Grow your capacity as a leader in your community.
  • Learn from a governance professional who is actively facilitating the course and engaging with participants throughout.
  • Connect and engage with a community of like-minded peers to learn and grow with and from.

 

Course Overview

The course structure is over an 8-week period, allowing 2 weeks per module (4 modules in total). The course will commence on the 14th of August through to the 6th of October and the course graduation will be on the 20th of October.

 

Modules:

  • What is a Management Committee Member / Board Member?
  • Duties and Responsibilities under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (Qld)
  • Rights as a Management Committee / Board Member
  • Being a Great Management Committee Member

 

What to expect

  • Online ‘lunch and learn’ sessions (each for 45 minutes) to support the online course material.
  • The workshop content will be available following the fortnightly ‘lunch and learn’ sessions.
  • These sessions will provide participants with the ability to ask questions and clarify the course content.
  • Participants will be prompted with actions and/or reflections in preparation for the end of module sessions.
  • Each module will have an end-of-module knowledge check where participants will complete an ungraded series of questions reviewing the module’s content.
  • An end-of-course assessment will be required for the participants to pass the course.
  • An online forum will be set up for the participants to engage with each other during the course.
  • Lifetime access to the course content will be provided.
  • A certificate of completion and summary of topics completed will be provided to each participant upon successful completion.

 

Times

  • The ‘lunch and learn’ sessions will be held during lunch 12:15 – 1:00pm Qld time
  • Session One: Introduction to the Course (Monday 14 August 2023). Held at the commencement of the program.
  • Sessions Two-Five: Fortnightly at the end of Each Module (Fridays: 25 August, 8 and 22 September, and 6 October). Module review and Q&A.
  • Session Six: At the end of the Program (Friday 20 October). A ‘graduation’ type session to close the program.

 

Cost

The value of the course is $250.00 plus GST.

The cost is subsidised by the TNQ Drought Hub, the participant cost is $150.00.

About the Course Developer and Facilitator – Lisa Cook, Get on Board Australia

Lisa is the Founder and Managing Director of Get on Board Australia, supporting aspiring, new and existing board members, and boards to thrive. She has nearly 15 years of experience serving on boards from a range of organisations in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors in Adelaide, Sydney, and across Australia. Lisa holds a degree from Charles Sturt University in business management and marketing, has completed the Foundations of Directorship program through AICD, and is currently studying for a Master of Business Law at the University of Adelaide.
