This month’s Hub Highlight is written by Kara-Glenn Worth, Digital Ag Innovation Consultant for the TNQ Drought Hub who attended EvokeAg, 20-21 February, Perth.
I was privileged to join EvokeAg 2024, held in Perth, Western Australia, for a truly eye-opening experience into the state of agritech in Australia. Beginning with the AgriFutures Emerging Industries Industry Innovation Tour, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand how innovation intertwines with research and supply chain efficiency, illuminating the potential of technology to revolutionise traditional practices within agriculture. Highlights for me were attending the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre, as well as Curtin University’s Hub for Immersive Visualisation and eResearch (HIVE).
During the conference itself, I was captivated by world-class speakers, with the highlight being The Great Exchange featuring Olympia Yager and Justin Webb. Their insights left a lasting impression on me, emphasizing the importance of embracing the critical role that producers play in our current food system. The exchange also offered insightful perspectives on the potential changing role of government and the broader supply chain to facilitate greater adoption of technology. Navigating through Startup Alley further fueled my inspiration, as I witnessed the remarkable innovation brewing within startups and scaleups.
Beyond the sessions, the true essence of evokeAg unfolded in the connections I forged. Reuniting with colleagues and connecting with producers from our own footprint highlighted the power of collaboration in driving progress. I also met some phenomenal leaders in AgriFutures Emerging Industries, including tea tree, fingerlimes and hemp among others. These interactions enriched my experience and reinforced my commitment to fostering resilience and productivity in our region.
Returning from evokeAg 2024, I carry with me a renewed sense of possibility and a deeper dedication to championing the adoption of new processes and technologies. I am excited to continue shaping the future of agriculture alongside my teammates, empowered by innovation and driven by collaboration.
