SUMMARY:Drying out: Looking at the summer ahead
DESCRIPTION:Three La Niña events in a row and record-breaking rains in eastern Australia from 2020–2022 left a sodden landscape. With the declaration of an El Niño and positive IOD the Bureau of Meteorology is expecting a dry and warm spring. But just how quickly can we return to dry? \nThis webinar\, presented by Associate Professor Ailie Gallant will highlight recent and ongoing work from the Climate Systems Hub demonstrating that under certain conditions\, sodden soils can dry out in weeks. Further\, these periods of rapid drying can coincide with extreme heat\, and in some cases bushfires. Looking at recent case studies of such events\, she will examine the implications of rapid drying on the upcoming summer\, and summers beyond.

SUMMARY:Women in Digital Awards Gala
DESCRIPTION:The Women in Digital Awards were founded in 2018 based on the idea ‘you can’t be what you can’t see.’ \nThe awards are a celebration of incredible women within the digital industries and the organisations that support them. \nWe believe that unless we have more visible role models in digital and technology we won’t change the status quo. By shining a light on industry leaders\, we shine a light on the career pathways and possibilities that digital and technology provides to women. \nWe are fierce advocates of celebrating excellence and know that these awards support self-recognition and belief. In fact\, in 2022 over 88% of nominees said that they had more career confidence after completing a Women in Digital awards nomination form.

SUMMARY:Future Drought Fund First Nations Consultation
DESCRIPTION:The Future Drought Fund (FDF) was established to provide secure\, continuous funding for investments that support Australian farmers and regional communities to prepare for\, and become more resilient to\, the impacts of future droughts. Under the FDF\, funding and investment priorities are reviewed every 4 years. A new 4-year funding cycle will commence in 2024\, with new programs from 1 July 2024. \nIn preparation for the next 4-year funding cycle\, the Australian Government is seeking your feedback on a draft Drought Resilience Funding Plan (Funding Plan)\, and draft Future Drought Fund Investment Strategy 2024 to 2028 (Investment Strategy). These documents were informed by stakeholder feedback to date as well as the recent Productivity Commission’s Inquiry Report into the effectiveness of the FDF. \nThis meeting will specifically focus on opportunities to better target and tailor FDF initiatives to First Nations Australians. The meeting will be held online\, from 2pm to 3:30pm on Monday 27 November 2023. A meeting link will be emailed to those who register. \nThis meeting will be an opportunity to have your say on the Funding Plan and the Investment Strategy and share your ideas on what the FDF should focus on over the next 4 years. Your feedback will shape the future direction of the FDF to ensure First Nations Australians can access the necessary information\, skills\, and networks to manage drought and climate risks. \nBefore the meeting\, we suggest you: \n• read the draft Funding Plan \n• read the consultation draft Investment Strategy \nShould the meeting date/time not suit\, or if you would rather attend an in-person meeting\, links to the FDF’s other consultation meetings can be found on the department’s website. \nYou may also submit your feedback via a short survey or upload a submission on the department’s website.
