Congratulations to Round 1 Drought Venture TNQ innovators

Congratulations to two innovators from the TNQ region for being selected for the first cohort for Beanstalk’s Drought Venture Studio.

  • Andres Ruiz is an MPhil candidate and Founder in Residence at JCU, leading research on plant-derived biomaterials and treatments for diseases. He is spearheading a project to transform the sugarcane industry in Far North Queensland by developing sustainable biopolymers and providing alternative revenue streams for local farmers.
  • Darryl Lyons, a Maiawali man and founder of Rainstick, integrates Indigenous knowledge with modern technology to address climate challenges in agriculture. His technology has shown potential to increase crop yield, particularly under drought conditions, by enhancing germination and early plant growth.

Darryl and Andres will now get 1-1 time with the Venture Builders who will work to validate the commercial potential of their IP over the next 90 days before entering a dedicated phase of building each venture.

Applications for the second round of innovators with research or IP to increase drought-resilience are now open.

Successful innovators will receive hands-on commercialisation support from a team of expert Venture Builders and the opportunity to be one of 8 startups matched with an experienced Founder for commercialisation and launch of a new drought resilience product or service. The program design is flexible as it recognises that applicants may have existing work or research commitments.

Applications close on 29 September at 9.00pm (AEST). Find out more.
