Boost for Enhanced Rock Weathering project through Cascade Climate Grant

Congratulations to researches Prof. Paul Nelson, James Cook University and Dr. Binoy Sarkar, University of South Australia and who in collaboration with project partners Carbonaught and TNQ Drought Hub have been awarded an Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) Field Data Partnership Grant.

In collaboration with the Grantham Foundation, Google, and Frontier, Cascade Climate announced over $1.2 million in funding, awarded to 9 projects addressing key research priorities in ERW.

This funding initiative aims to accelerate ERW science via a “piggybacking” model, where academic researchers layer scientific exploration onto existing ERW projects.

Prof Nelson said, “This grant will provide additional opportunities for us to analyse the mechanisms of ERW and carbon capture during our trials.”

Dr Sarkar added, “It’s important for us to collect more data and help us gain a greater understanding of this promising carbon removal and land management solution.”

The funding represents the importance of nature-based solutions that can deliver both agricultural and atmospheric benefits.
